From the outside it seems like you’ve “got it all.”

The truth is that you are struggling.

You don’t have to do this alone.

Art therapy can be a place for you to share your experience without having to edit your story. Learn to tune in to your intuition, dive deeper into your thoughts and feelings and grow through the creative process.

We work with people who want more out of life.

Tune into your values, desires and authentic voice to guide each day rather than what you should do. Discover the most healthy version of you possible.

Why art therapy?

  • You are seeking direction in your life

  • You are ready to take control of your thoughts and feelings

  • You don't quite have the words to share your experiences

You're in the right place if you want to:

  • Create change in your life

  • Find a healthy outlet for your thoughts and feelings

  • Share your story in a way that is comfortable to you

  • Communicate nonverbally through imagery and art

Art therapy creates a space for you to express what is difficult, or impossible, to say with words.

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way— things I had no words for.
— Georgia O'Keeffe

An alternative approach

Individual art therapy sessions are available for teens and adults who are seeking an alternative approach to the therapy process. In addition to talking, creating art in session provides an outlet for your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Art therapy provides a nonverbal experience in which you can tell your story using images.

Art therapy is helpful for:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Substance Abuse

  • Fertility, pregnancy and postpartum stress

If words don't come easily or you've felt stuck in therapy in the past, art therapy may be a good fit for you.

All clinicians at Alexandria Art Therapy are Licensed Professional Counselors trained in traditional “talk therapy” methods.
